Theme

In one of Chinua Achebe's stories Marriage is a private affair, one of the main topics is learning to deal with what life throws at you. Through out the whole story Nnemka is trying to convince his father that marrying a woman from a different tribe is okay. His father is stuck in the old fashion ways of marriage and wants his son to marry the woman that they have chosen for him. We as the readers later find out that his father will have to deal with the fact that his son isn't going to marry who they want him to, and it's not worth it to continue fighting, because the will just hurt their relationship more in the future.
